Once a month in San Francisco, the Flaskmob (Evan & Sabina Thompson) puts together this event that is just hard to describe. It's labeled as "photography walk", but what myself and the NTHGLS crew attended this past Sunday night was far from that simple. Perhaps the magnitude of this Sunday night's event was escalated for the 1 year birthday of Flaskmob, I don't know.
If you've been a follower of the brand it should be no surprise that our concepts are deeply rooted in the rich culture of music. The Irrelevant collection is no exception...
Five years ago to this date, we first registered as a business.
Five years later we've been able to somewhat establish Nothing Less as a growing entity in the streetwear community. It's very rewarding when someone reaches out our way to tell us they feel and understand what it is that we're doing.
It also startles me to even think we've been "doing this" for five years. In no way does it feel that long. In fact, i'm starting to find more fulfillment out of it now than back when we first started. And I know I speak for the team when I say it's been a very long road, but through the trials and tribulations we remain standing tall.
How long have you been pursuing your dream? It's time to start moving...
Moving toward the release of our first collection "IRRELEVANT", we sought out to complete our lookbook.
Erykah Badu, Talib Kweli, IAMSU, J Boog, & Audiopush were just some of the names that occupied the 3 stages spread across the 6 blocks of Haight St.
I was fortunate to grow up in the bay area where the independent/underground hip hop scene is so rich with culture and being surrounded by that is what inspired some of the concepts and designs that we put out today.
Long before I could even drive, I developed a strong love for JDM classics. My admiration started riding shotgun in my brothers Datsun 240z and later personally owning both ’71 & ’74 Corolla’s. I was able to truly appreciate unique character of a rear wheel drive, 2000 lbs or less, smog exempt car. When I heard Historic J was bringing back its historic Japenese car gathering “Bayline 2014″, I had to mark my calendar. This years gathering brought out some of the best Japanese classic cars in the states.
With many discussions over the years and much anticipation of shooting our first lookbook, we were finally setup to shoot the first part of our "Irrelevant" collection. To say the least, I was thrilled.
